Weems Farms has produced premium quality alfalfa in the Pecos River Valley of New Mexico since 1928. Our primary product is small bales of alfalfa hay which are shipped to ranches, dairies and feed stores throughout the United States.

The Pecos River Valley of southeastern New Mexico is ideally suited for the production of premium alfalfa hay. (See description.) This unique agricultural environment permits the following rigorous production process:

First cutting of alfalfa is in mid May
Each field is harvested every 28 days.
Fields are flood irrigated.
Six to seven cuttings per field per year.
Last cutting is usually in late October.
Alfalfa is cut by windrowers during the day.
The following night, after a light dew, two windrows are raked together.
The next night, the alfalfa is baled after a light dew, .
Immediately, automated bale wagons transport the hay to barns.
Night handling after light dews prevents leaf shattering & maintains peak feed value.
